)The Go Find they're called. From somewhere not in America. Ambient like American Analog Set once was but maybe a little more eventful(?). I'd say at the very least with stronger melodies. Though if you listen to the lyrics of the first song on their newest album "Stars On The Wall" you may want to turn it off before the album really starts ("the weeping boy/crying rivers filled with joy") cringe. The rest of the record has really nice music and uncringe-worthy lyrics. Really really nice. I have been listening to it at work a lot lately. Looked in Newbury Comics for the actual CD a few times, nothing. They had the album only on vinyl which may be the goofiest thing ever. But to tell you the truth, it is so good that I have thought far too much about going back and buying it on vinyl. If you want to listen to it first, I'm sure you can find it on the blogosphere.
)New Spoon record. I adore Spoon. Probably more than I should. What is carrying Spoon really? I think it is mostly that Britt Daniel has the most pretentious voice in indie-rock and that's enough for me. The new record is all right. I feel like Spoon is one of those bands that is on the cusp of joining that group made up of people who were once incredible but stuck around too long and embarrassed all of their fans with their mediocrity (Paul McCartney, George Lucas, The Simpsons, Dan Marino, Michael Jordan...a million other people and things). All of that aside, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" isn't a bad record but it does feel like it is missing something. "The Underdog" is a nice catchy song, but it might be the only one on the record. It is still an interesting record but listening to it makes me think "remember when Spoon wrote really catchy songs?"
)The new Kings Of Leon record. If I didn't despise that band for their name alone which I think is horrible I probably would have listened to some of their earlier records. The new one, not so bad. The lyrics leave something to be desired but the melodies are nice the music is pretty excellent. I was surprised and impressed and I still never would have listened to them if Pat Heart hadn't recommended them to me. Oh Pat Heart.
)That movie "Superbad". It's gonna be huge. Really funny. Absolutely juvenile and stupid and there's a part with menstrual blood which is just unnecessary but periods aside, a pretty hilarious movie. More fucks and shits than I have heard in one day since I graduated college and left the Titans suite.
)Jerry Sloan's loss of hair. It's totally the cool thing to do. Allow me to make a list of cool people who are bald and balding:
Davey VonBohlen, Charles Barkley, Mark Baard, Jesus, Hulk Hogan, John Paul II, Blair Sheehan, Larry David, Shrek, George Costanza, At least one guy in Mogwai...etc.
)Upcoming ReCaaLL show in a week. Less than a week. The 23rd at the Bullfinch Yacht Club. If Richard Ashcroft or anyone from The Verve is there we will destroy you. You too Greenspan!
