The other day I was watching the MTV awards with my girlfriend, and I kept saying, "hey, they're using Aesop Rock beats as background music!" (She wasn't too impressed.)
Well now he's taken over the whole damn network, and every fifteen minutes or so they're plugging him. Aesop has hardly been hidden over the past few years, but it's strange seeing someone you've enjoyed for a long time suddenly thrust into the mainstream.
He's currently MTV's Artist of the Week: "...there’s way more to this MC than bee-sting acrobatics. For one thing, he’s out of his damn mind." They've got a bunch of cool videos of him too.
Thankfully most of MTV's audience isn't old enough to make it to the Middle East's 18+ shows. I need to buy my tickets.
