Like music snobs everywhere, I'm inherently suspicious of white guys my age doing classic, old school, true school soul songs. But I just got Eli "Paperboy" Reed's 45 in the mail, and it's really, really good. It's hard to doubt his chops/devotion/authenticity/general coolness.
I saw Reed doing a solo show last year, and his voice is gigantic. It sounds wonderful on wax too. The 7" is five dollars, plus shipping, and includes a CD-R for easy mp3 ripping. Highly recommended, and apparently in limited supply, so get it soon.
